Unsolved Mysteries (Volume 2) Review

By Paul Anthony
With the pandemic going on I have been looking at so much to review until life goes back to normal, so let me say I am sorry for not reviewing this volume of episodes a lot sooner because honestly I did watch this show as soon as it came out but just had other things to write about. Now let’s get to talking about the last six episodes of this season. Volume 2 covers 6 episodes much like volume did and those episodes are the following. Washington Insider Murder, Death In Oslo, Death Row Fugitive, Tsunami Spirits, Lady in the Lake and the last episode is title Stolen Kids. Like before with the first 6 episodes, there is no host which to me is the only mistake I could fine and that is just being picky because though Netflix makes good documentaries, they all seem to be the same except this could have been different. But that is the just a minor knock against it.
All the episodes seem to be roughly around the one hour mark when it comes to time. Also each episode does a good introduction to the story you are about to watch as well as give you as much details from from what we heard and interviews from people who were close to investigations. The first episode follows the mysteries death of John P. Wheeler 3rd. Second episode follows a death of an woman in a nice hotel in Norway, which she gave them false information about herself including her name which truly left everything a mystery. Next we follow the case of convicted murderer and sex offender Lester Eubanks who escaped from prison. The fourth episode follows the claim in which people from Japan sees the ghosts of those who lost their lives in the tsunami of 2011. This one really peaked my interest because it’s a case we all truly remember and the clean up and the lost of life was truly a sad thing and one for the ages. Then the death of Joann Romain who disappeared in 2010 when she so called walked into the icy lake St. Clair. the last episode covers the disappearance of two toddlers from Harlem in 1989 and where they might be. The toddlers were Christopher Dansby and Shane Walker and they were last seen at the playground at the Martin Luther King Jr towers. Truly another episode that caught my attention because it sadly involved innocent kids.
Now the second half of this season had some good moments but not as much as the first half. Overall these two volumes made up what is the 15th season of the show and far from what the they are calling a reboot. in the end I do give this season a must watch status and a grade of about a B plus or 85 percent. I would say its good for a Friday night with popcorn! Please if you have any information regarding these cases please report it and help these mysteries become solved!
Murder Mystery Review
By Paul Anthony
Well I think this time I am truly getting tired of bad films thinking they are good, I often catch myself wondering when is funny no longer funny anymore, I get my answer when I was any new movie that Adam Sandler is in. Few years back we all know the story Adam Sandler’s production company signed a contract with Netflix to produce a number films, all signs point to the fact that the contract was for 8 films and this film marks the 7th film in the contract. I’ll be honest this deal needs to end fast.
I know Netflix at first was getting a lot of views on this film which, I am going to guess people were expecting something great and comedy gold when you have Jennifer Aniston in it but when you think about that you also have to realize that Adam Sandler is in it as well. Let’s get to this review of this film This movie fell flat to me and I am being nice, this film was built as a comedy and I don’t think I even laughed once. The cast did what they could and you had some good names in this film, for starters you had Jennifer Aniston, Luke Evans and Terence Stamp, though his role was more of an cameo rather then the main cast. Jennifer has been in a few good comedies the last few years. Now We know she was on friends and that was a sitcom, but with that being said I don’t find her funny on her own but give her a good cast and script and she will make you laugh, however she couldn’t in this film but that is no fault of her own. Adam’s job was to bring the laughs the problem is his style grew old like him and instead of changing it up he just keeps playing the same character and that gets old.
The plot was basic, for starters it was about a Marry couple who after 15 years of marriages seems to be falling apart because of laziness on Adam’s character to part. To spice it up he plans a last minute trip to Europe and there they get tangled into a rich family fighting for the billions of dollars, in the end they are set up to look like the killers in which case they must prove that they didn’t do it. Sounds like a fun idea for a movie but the writing was just weak and you kind of saw who was the guilty party.
Yes I am bashing this movie because, I hardly ever watched a comedy that didn’t make me laugh just a little, with that being said I am giving this film an E, they had a good idea but they just didn’t deliver good on the idea, this film could have been better but this is what is expected from an Adam Sandler movie these days and trust it is sad. We know now this was film 7 in the 8 film contract so this deal is coming to an end which may not be a bad thing for Netflix.
O.J. Tweets!
By Paul Anthony
Some people just can’t behave and they show that age doesn’t always mean you become wise. There is a saying and that saying is once a cheater always a cheater. Now there are different forms of that saying but today we all going to use the form of Once a Criminal always a Criminal. The person that I am speaking of course is O.J Simpson who finally on Twitter and some of the stuff will blow your mind. Now to the young fans who may not know why this old guy is famous I will break it down for you.
O.J Simpson was a great running back in the 70’s where he played for 11 seasons and though it was only 11 years, he proved to be the best back in his time. However by the the time the 90’s came around he became even more famous when he murdered his wife who was cheating on him, He also killed her boyfriend as well. He took police on a low speed chase that was televised in his white Bronco. The trial came and he had gotten a dream team of lawyers, who actually made sure he got off and became a free man. After that the rest of the decade proved that Simpson’s second chance of life was nothing more then a joke to him because he would fight drug charges and not paying his taxes.
Now his tax issues must have been why he decided to rob a person in Las Vegas that had his sports memorabilia at gun point. That’s right he decided to commit Armed Robbery. Once again he was back in jail this time he actually served prison time just nine years for everything he has done. I guess some time is better then no time. Now he is in his 70’s and like I said before he decided to join twitter and let me just say OH BOY.
In O.J. first tweet he decides to make a video and in this video it starts off pretty basic and him just saying this is his real account but then he adds “Now I got some getting even to do”. Now I know things can be taken out of context but he knows what he was doing and so do we. However he began to tweet other stuff like I just stabbed my wife I didn’t kill her and then posted a photo of black gloves and said I hope they fit.
Now Once again he could be just saying that because he wants the attention and he knows he became even more famous for what he had done. We all know social media can make stars out of people and for O.J. who is broke I would think, I am sure he needs money. Now Those are just some his tweets that I mention go check out the rest because he is very entertaining and it should make twitter fun at the very least!
Movie review: Extremely Wicked,Shockingly Evil and Vile
By Paul Anthony
I catch myself watching Netflix’s films more and more and it seems like they keep getting better and better and not too mention they keep getting some big names as well, as before I did a review on the Bird Box film simply because I started to hear about the challenges that were going on which basically forced me to watch the film. I recently heard about Netflix doing an Ted Bundy film. Now if you never heard of him, he was serial killer who stocked and raped and murdered young woman in 70s, he was later caught and escaped from prison a couple times and finally in Florida he was caught for good and sentenced to death which did happen in January of 1989.
It is important to note that this film was not from Ted’s point of view but his Girlfriend Liz, who for the longest time believed he was innocent until the evidence was clear and he finally confessed to her and others that he did in fact kill over 30 women. The title of the movie was creative which the film was called Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which was the words of judge Edward Cowart who was the judge who sentence Bundy to death. The film had Zac Efron as Bundy and Jim Parsons as Larry Simpson, John Malkovich as Judge Edward Cowart. Not to mention the film also had Dyan Baker and Jeffery Donovan and Haley Joel Osment. So a Pretty good cast.
The film’s story starts with Liz and Ted meeting at a bar in 1969 and shortly after that they began to date. Then out of no where Newscasts starts to pop up and talking about women missing and then Bundy being accused of theses crimes after he is pulled over. It wasn’t until the end we find out that Liz gave his name to police when she saw a sketch of the possible suspect. Through the film, which because of Liz, it seems like Bundy is a innocent man. The problem I had through this point is that we have yet to see anything Ted did that made you believe he was guilty. Though It’s from Liz’s view certain scenes did happen that Liz wouldn’t have known so why not show us something if it was tease. We get that little tease at the end the end but for me it was just a little too late.
I wasn’t much a Zac Efron fan when he was a young kid and it seemed like he was going to fall flat on his face but he has been improving and taking on different roles and he continues to shine. The best part of this film was hands down his performance. Looking over the footage of Bundy that I saw, it seems like Efron did his homework on Bundy.
With that being said I am giving this film a good three stars out of five, they didn’t blow it out of the water but they did do enough for the film to be watchable.
Juice is Loose
By Paul Anthony
Juice is on the loose! Well at least come October, the man we all know by his initials, one of the greatest running backs ever to play in the NFL a Hall of famer however his life outside of football is so far from different from his football life. Many may know him has Orenthal James Simpson, the man that ran or in this case drove to get away from police and got away with a possible double Murder and never served a day in prison for those crimes, O.J. however couldn’t stay clean and nine years ago in 2008 he was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping, he was sentenced to do 30 years with a 9 year minimum without Parole, well those 9 years has passed and he was granted an early release, he is scheduled to get out at some point in October.
During his football career, he seemed to be the prefect citizen who went about his business but something just happened to change with his life when he stepped away from football, pretty much since his 1994 murder case where many people were shocked that he wasn’t convicted, he been committing crimes at an alarming rate for someone who has no record. We can debate if he did or didn’t murder those people however in 1999 the state of California claimed he owes them 1.44 million in back taxes. In 2001, he was arrested for simple Battery and burglary, if he was convicted he could have faced 16 years in prison however once again he was acquitted.
Just a few months later after he was acquitted, the F.B.I searched his house on the suspicion of ecstasy and money laundering, they received a tip that Simpson was involved in some major Drug Trafficking. However, they found nothing that could prove that. In 2002, he was arrested for water speeding when he was going through a manatee protected zone. Then we get to the Vegas Robbery that finally made Simpson serve prison time.
It was reported that while in prison Simpson was a good prisoner which why they granted him an early release. Is he truly reformed or is it because he’s just too old now at 70 years old of course, there is no age range on committing anytime of crime, but could he have been reformed? Many will probably say no considering he should have been in prison years ago and never should have seen freedom again. So here we are, the juice is free but the better question is can Juice stay out of trouble? Please tell me what you think!
