Whose Your Spider-Man?

BY Paul Anthony

I had been wanting to do this blog for a long time now but decided to wait until we were out of the spoiler zone for the Spider-Man fan base. We now know that Spider-Man: No Way home is killing it at the box office even when it finally dropped to second place it is still making money, even as this blog is being typed. We saw both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield return as Spider-Man. Which shocked the world in some ways because there were so many rumors regarding the both of them. We of course now know that everyone came back, and it made me wonder who I consider my Spider-Man to be? Afterall, I have seen all the modern Spider-Mans. However, before my time there was one actor who played Spider-Man for the television movies from the late 70’s to the early 80’s. His name is Nicholas Hammond and if you have seen his films then you might consider him your Spider-Man and if you do than that is fine but since his films weren’t in the theaters sadly, he won’t count for this blog.

we will first start with the first of them all and that would Tobey Maguire who was cast as the hero in the summer of 2000 and even manage to beat out the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Freddie Prinze jr, Chris O’Donell, Jude Law, Chris Klien, Wes Bentley, Health Ledger, James Franco, Scott Speedman and even Joe Manganiello. Though James and Joe would still be cast in other roles. Nevertheless, Tobey won the job and filming was set to begin in November of 2000, it got pushed back to January of 2001. Though we didn’t have insight to contract details back then we do know he was offered 3-4 million and higher salary for two sequels. In this time frame there had only really been a few successful comic book movies outside of Batman and Superman. No doubt this was going to be a challenge. Now it’s lifetime the film managed to gross 825 million dollars and managed to spawn two more films with Maguire starring as Spider-Man. The series ran from 2002 to 2008. At this point we had nothing to compare to Maguire’s performance as Spider-Man because there really wasn’t another Spider-Man. Sadly we never got a Spider-Man 4 for a number of reasons regarding contracts and creative direction, at this point the series that was a big hit was left for dead. Until just four years later a reboot came out titled The Amazing Spider-Man.
Here we now had a new actor taking the role from Maguire and that was none other than Andrew Garfield who got the role just two years after Spider-Man 3 came out. Now the film was released in the summer of 2012, and it seemed like that film series wanted to show Peter Parker true intelligence by having him design his own web shooters which did go more towards the comic book. This film series wanted to keep Spider-Man in high school though he was already 17 and in his junior year. At first, I know was bitter about the reboot, I so bad wanted to see part 4 and not see a reboot but I have to admit Garfield sold me on it. His performance gave us a nerdy but funny Peter Parker and a Spider-Man that truly moved like a Spider-Man. two years later we got the sequel and it seemed like that Maguire/ Spider-Man was a thing of the past. Though Sony failed to learn from their mistakes with adding too many villains and changing Parker’s parents’ deaths and so forth, though the lone bright spot was for the first time on the big screen Spider-Man failed to save Gwen. Now No one knocked Garfield’s performance, but this film managed to become the lowest grossing spider-man film and had very high budget which was around 293 million and you knew what was coming and that was a reboot and another failed ending.

Now at this point just a year later in a shocking turn of events Sony worked out a deal with Marvel to Allow the character to return home as long as Sony gets something out of the deal. This shocked the world because we knew that at this time the MCU was in full swing and killing it at the box office and we knew Sony own the film rights, but we didn’t know was that Sony needed to release a spider-man film every 5.75 years to keep the film rights. The original plan was to find a way to bring Garfield’s Spider-Man in the MCU but both Sony and Marvel agreed to go a different direction and that was to reboot the character once again and truly make a film series of Peter Parker in high school, but they needed a young actor which they found that in Tom Holland who was 17 at the time of the casting to play a 15-year-old Peter Parker which was close enough. Tom made his appearance as Spider-Man in 2016 hit film Captain America: Civil War and Marvel did a good job at introducing him and getting away from the beginnings that we saw Sony do twice, instead we see him, and he has only been Spider-man for 6 months and just been doing the small things well the Avengers fight Aliens from Space. a Year later we get Spider-man: Homecoming, which I loved the title and found it Ironic. This was Tom Holand’s first full film as Spider-Man, and we managed to make it a third solo film and with a bright future and maybe a part 4!! In all Tom has played Spider-Man for 6 films, Maguire 4 films and Garfield in 3 films, the latter two also starred in Spider-Man No Way Home. Now it is time to ask ourselves, who is your Spider-Man?
I catch myself asking that question over and over again and I have to keep breaking things down, since this one a few cases where there have been three actors in one generation which most cases its one actor per generation. Now With Maguire I believe he was the better Peter Parker; he was quiet but innocent at the same time, he was very smart but not enough to brag about it. Him as Spider-Man almost was the same as Peter Parker which goes against the alter Ego situation. Now we have Garfield and his Spider-Man. What stands out to me is when he is under the mask, he seemed to become the spider and his movements were based on an actual spider, we can argue that the technology wasn’t fully there for Maguire to do this but then again that series went away from a few things regarding the comics. Garfield performance as Peter was hilarious with his jokes but sometimes came off as a creep regarding Gwen, it was one thing to be nervous because we all have been there but being a little creepy wasn’t a Peter thing. Then we have Tom Holland. who seemed to have blended the two previous spider-man’s together which might have been the right thing to do? He moves like Maguire with hints of Garfield in it, He does show his intelligence but at times seems to be a fan boy and amaze at the same time, which can go overboard at times and that is both as Peter and Spider-Man, Now the good thing is that the character was able to grow as the series went on which makes me more excited to see where the character goes from here at No Way Home.

Now who is my Spider-Man? Well with watching all three and knowing I am only in my early 30’s, I would have to say now it is Holland because he has the time to keep evolving the character and that is something we didn’t see from the other two. Now Maguire is the OG and no one will take that away from him and Garfield proved he could step out of Maguire shadow and cement his legacy and of course Holland proved that he respected those character of the past. In The end Holland is my Spider-Man, so now who is yours?
The Devil Returns Home!!

By Paul Anthony
If you are a big Marvel fan then you know this week was a big deal for one of our favorite characters and that character was Daredevil. That’s right Daredevil is back home as of November 29th. This a big deal to me because let’s get right into it the show was a massive hit for Netflix and fans loved it. Let’s go even further back to the 2003 film Daredevil which starred Ben Affleck as our hero. The Movie was a modest hit but it could have been bigger. Year after year the idea of a sequel started to fade away and then there was talks of an reboot and even that fell through. By this time Disney now bought Marvel and rights were coming back home which included Daredevil. The MCU was born and was killing it at the box office. So it was Natural for fans to want another shot at seeing Daredevil. Then News broke that Disney worked out a deal with Netflix. That’s right we would see the devil again but this time it was show rather than a movie yet it would still take place in the MCU, just on a smaller skill since at times we knew Marvel had many heroes but they all weren’t big time players like the avengers.
Then on April 10th, 2015 the show was released and just like that fans went crazy for the show. They went on to binge watch it and beg for season 2 and even season 3. the show help bring characters to screen and into the light. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist got their own shows and we got a New Punisher as well. The casting of these shows and storylines what made the shows magic and it was all thanks to Daredevil. However little did we know Disney was working something else that would soon change the landscape of this great relationship.
Disney was working on their on streaming service which we know would be Disney plus which would launch in November 12th 2019, just one year later after Daredevil was canceled. At some point I would have guess Netflix got the word that Disney was going to have their own streaming service and decided to cancel the show. When they did this fans assumed the show would just be on Disney plus but we were wrong. We learned that the contract between Netflix and Disney would prevent the show from being saved and going to Disney for two years.
There could be a few reasons why this deal was in place and why Netflix did what they did. It all depends on which side of the coin you want to look at. Maybe Netflix wanted to keep a good relationship with Disney but also wanted to maintain ratings and to get both they needed to cancel the show, so Disney could have the rights soon as possible, this seems most likely instead of them punishing Disney, I say this because Netflix had all the rights to do a fourth season and they could have done it and that would basically slapped Disney in the face but they didn’t and they are smart enough not to do business like that. The good news is that Jessica Jones and The Punisher are the only ones left of the deal that is waiting to come and come February 18th they will. Now the question becomes will they revive these great shows? Time will tell.
My top 6 anticipated games of 2020

By: Justin Hopkins
It is a sad way to kick-off a new year, when you realize that a game you love, is just not for you anymore, but that is the way this year is starting for me. A game that I have loved for the best part of a year and a half, has finally pushed my last nerve and have to walk away. It is sad, but as I look into the new year. There is a lot to be excited for. So, one game may have come to an end for me, I have six more to look forward too. Before I start, got to say, I play on Playstation, so with the exception of my Honorable Mention. We will focus on Sony. Not that there’s anything wrong with PC or Xbox, just going with what I got. Cool, let’s get started than.
HONORABLE MENTION – HELLBLADE 2: SENUA SAGA
The only reason that this is sitting at Honorable Mention and not number 1, is that it is not confirmed for 2020. I haven’t bought an Xbox since the 360. The moment that trailer dropped, I knew I would be getting an Xbox X-Series to continue Senua’s Journey. I loved the first game. Such an intense, beautifully made game, with a gripping story that sucked you in the game with everything they did and can only imagine what they have store for the second game.
6. PREDATOR: HUNTING GROUNDS
It seems that I am in need of a new online multiplayer game and what better, than Predator Hunting Grounds. Seems like a very basic idea. You either play as your choice of Yautja and hunting a team of marines. The Marines are working together to complete their mission and escape alive. The concept art looks fantastic, especially for the Yautja and am really excited to use the bow and you get the skin from the first movie if you Pre-Order. As always, go into it with a bit of caution. Online multiplayers can fall apart quickly, but still willing to give this one a chance all the same.
5. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
This game is probably the one game I know the least about, but am strangely being pulled towards it. It action roleplay game, that sees you playing a young vampire in Seattle, and that was all it really needed to be said to win me over. As you play through, you learn new abilities through factions engaged in a civil war, and I just like it. Wish I could say why. Didn’t even play the first one. Just has a certain vibe that has really won me over, and if they have a fair amount of creative character, would be that much more happy for it.
4. MARVEL AVENGERS
Alright, so the first trailer did not do this a whole lot of justice. The Kamala Khan one though, did a lot better, and with test players hyping it up even more. Don’t know if this was announced, but curious on how many heroes will be involved, and the story looks interesting, and I have a weakness for Superhero games. Have even enjoyed the bad ones, so this one should be a blast. Especially, if we get to play as our choice of characters, or focus a bit more on the lesser known heroes.
3. RESIDENT EVIL 3: NEMESIS
Resident Evil 2 Remake was fantastic and set the bar for how a video game remake should work. They stayed true to what made it great. Tweaked a few things to change it up and gave side stories and than the original versions. We might not get all of that this time around, but with them saying they took what they learned in 2 and carried it over to 3 has me confident going in, and as a bonus, you get the online multiplayer that they have been talking about for some time now, Project Resistance. Capcom has a successful track with their remakes, and have no doubt they can make it at a hat trick with Nemesis.
2. Doom Eternal
I love the Doom Series. They are so much fun. The adrenaline filled carnage of playing Doom Guy. Running around killing everything in your wake. Game literally knows exactly what it is. Oh, this rocket launcher, isn’t enough. Well how about if it shoots multiple locked on rockets? Still want more, how about a movable turret? No, here is a gun that will wipe out everyone in a bloody paste and you get to carry them all around at your ready. Low on ammo. Get up and close for more, or use this chainsaw, and god yes, give me more. Can play these game all the time, and a pre-order for Doom 64. A big yes to even more Doom, and just misses out on the number one slot.
1. DESTROY ALL HUMANS
I don’t think there is any game series that brings back more fond memories than Destroy All Human. A friend of mine way, back in high school gave me a game he swore I could not beat without cheats, it was Destroy All Humans, and I did beat it without cheating. Bought a Wii for the lone purpose to play, Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed. Watched another friend fail for over 4 hours to get any points in human plink-o in Destroy All Humans: Path Of The Furon. I even have the Original on PS4 due to a charity giveaway, but when this game finally comes out, am going to be getting a copy and just getting lost in the world of Cryptosporidium 137 all over again. Graphics look spectacular and hope for some new content, but one way or another. Destroy All Humans is the game I am most looking forward to the most, in 2020
I know, I didn’t say Cyberpunk 2077. I am going to play it, but is a game I know less about than Vampires. I know they have been working on it for a long time and don’t want to look into it at all. Want to go in blind, and because of that. It did not make the list, but I am sure there is plenty more that didn’t make the list. Feel free to drop any in the comments. In the meantime, hope you enjoyed and as always…
Thank you for reading.
Friday Roundabout 1-10-2020

By: Justin Hopkins
Hello and welcome to another roundabout. Hope you all had a great week. As always, bringing my thought on rumors and news from around the entertainment world in the past week, and a little longer to touch on one rumor. With all of that said, let’s jump right in with the big Marvel story from the week, in Doctor Strange and the loss of the director.
It is a shame to see Scott Derrickson dropping out of the Multiverse Of Madness, sequel to Dr. Strange, especially due to creative differences. Was a big fan of the first movie, and felt Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance in Infinity War and the climax of Endgame definitely hyped up the urge to see his return. At the same time, not going to panic over it at the same time. Marvel has been a consistent machine at pumping out solid movies and with them having similar issues with the first Antman, they have some experience in righting the ship from creative differences with Directors. Hope that they can find a way to reconcile with Scott, but if not. Still hyped for this sequel.
Going from the big screen to the smaller one and movement on a remake of the classic 1981 Werewolf movie, The Howling, coming to Netflix. The announcement came in the form of Director Andy Muschietti working on an adaption for Netflix, which I find really exciting. Andy has said before that The Howling was a dream project for him to work on, and The Howling does have a rich story with some room to grow and take into different directions, and like all remakes, even if they don’t live up to expectations. Still have the classic to enjoy.
From there we go to the world of Video Games, and before I go into this one, need to stress that this is just a rumor. I tried to find something official but at this point, all I can find is speculation, but as a Sony player. Feel the need to give my two cents on this one. It has to do with various sites reporting that the PS5 will be backward compatible. Going all the way back to Playstation 1. If this is true, I would be elated. Would be satisfied with PS3 and over the moon to access PS2, but getting them all would be fantastic, and they really need that feature to compete with Xbox, who has announced that the X Series will do just that. With the PS5 due up later this year, really wish Sony would put out some official statements to curb some of the rumor trains. In the meantime, I have my fingers crossed that this rumor carries weight.
Speaking of games, we got a bit of what to expect from Resident Evil Nemesis. This is such a small thing to be excited for a game that I am pretty much Pre-Ordering the first chance I get, but they were talking about Nemesis himself, and to not expect what you remember. Learning from their time working on Mr. X in the remake of Resident Evil 2, and he will not work in scripted terms, but as he sees fit. Making him unpredictable and increase the horror factor. Also, Carlos will have a playable section, which will add even more new content. Truth be told, I am super excited for this game and any reason I can find to talk about it; I jump. Releases on April 13th, barring any delays and please, don’t let there be any delays. Need a new game to play.
There is a few trailers that have dropped. New Mutants and Birds of Prey seem to be the big ones, but have given up trailers for New Year Resolutions. Going to do my best to avoid trailers, after the first ones, because I am tired of them spoiling aspects of the movie after the first trailer drops, and encourage everyone to follow my example. #Nomorespoilersintrailers.
In close, want to congratulate Frozen 2 on becoming the highest grossing animated movie of all time, and hope you all enjoyed this week’s edition of the roundabout. As always…
Thanks for reading.
Friday Roundabout 10/25/19

By Paul Anthony
Like any other week we are faced with so many stories and just not enough time to write about them so let’s get down to it and go through a few stories that we just couldn’t cover. One of the biggest stories was of course the annoying Cardi B who we know was a stripper turned to a no talent rapper and now has one film to her credit and now another film because she will be now in Fast 9, well I know Vin wants all the star power in these final two films but this is something that is not needed and Cardi B is more famous for her looks rather then talent and this casting could set the female film way back, I could be way wrong but we will see soon enough.
Now this this isn’t a movie thing but I do find it entertaining but Edward Snowden, yes the famous hacker who decided to leak our security systems because he didn’t like, he went on a podcast and announced that the moon landing was indeed real and it did happen, well there you go people it was all real.
Okay that was stupid I know but let’s get back to some serious business here, the Joker now has become the highest R rated film now, which means it did even better then Deadpool. The next question is when will the money stop or even slow down and predictions are putting this film back in the top stop, could we see a 1 billion R rated film? Who knows!
Now let’s cover some Star Wars news here, we now know how many episodes we are getting in the Obi- Wan series which takes place 8 years after Revenge of Sith. I still don’t how I feel about this show with Obi-Wan story pretty much being over when he defeated and nearly killed Darth Vader and pretty much did nothing in the 20 plus years that he went into hiding but we do know Disney is creative with adding and making stuff up, I know I am sounding like I am bashing the series but I am looking forward to watching it to see where it goes.
Keeping in the Disney umbrella, they are in fact making another Pirates of the Caribbean film, yes it is a reboot so there is a good chance we won’t see Johnny Depp, which isn’t a bad thing because the truth be told the fan base wasn’t thrilled with him anymore, just look at the numbers, though what worries me is most of the crew behind the camera which means they might not offer us anything new but still this movie is a long way from happening.
Justin will most likely going to review the Shinning sequel Dr. Sleep but what are other people saying? Well the reviews have been positive and even calling it the best King movie if not one of the best.
Now You ever wonder if actors get hurt on location when they do awesome fight scenes. Marvel’s Netflix show The Punisher which broke the character back from the dead, but what injuries did he suffer, well a broken hand, got knocked out, tore ligaments, dislocated his thumb but despite all that he is willing to come back as Frank Castle if or when he is summon again to play the role and I think he is the best one we had so why not bring him back!
What Is Cinema?
By Paul Anthony
When you on on top of the world and you are making the most money and you keep producing hit after hit you will have your haters and now Disney and Marvel is facing that from some pretty big names but who is bashing the machine that marvel has become? Some of those people well the biggest names is Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.
Here is the thing that bothers me the most with those two speaking out against Marvel and don’t get me wrong they have every right to do so but Scorsese said that Marvel films aren’t cinema but my question is what is cinema? We know there are several genres of film and the best description of the word is art of motion picture. Now through the years we can say its a film that tells a good story and deliver all the elements of literature and most of all it entertains us and keeps us hooked. I have watched many movies of Martin Scorsese and I do enjoy his work and many of his films I do own. But Is he right for calling a genre trash?
Scorsese and Coppola were some of the directors that started the new wave in Hollywood and changed the game, Some of Scorsese’s films include gang violence of the mafia or just gangs outright but they always had a little of everything but yet many people don’t like them as well but no one called it trash.
See it doesn’t make sense to me for him to call it trash, maybe it’s sour grapes or something because of the money Marvel. Scorsese highest grossing film was Wolf of Wall Street which grossed 392 million dollars and is a great movie to watch. When you look Marvel Studios movies that number would rank on the low end of list, still once again no need to trash something and it’s not like these films are poorly reviewed either so a lot of people don’t think this type of films are trash. Now I know a bunch of actors have came out and said hey they can say whatever they want to say and indeed they can, take nothing away they are legends but even legends can be wrong and in this case I have to say they are wrong but have the right to say that.
Now maybe behind the scenes Scorsese is feeling the pressure to make a mega hit like avengers type of gross and it’s not his style. In the end Marvel films are very much cinema, it is a modern art and they do get a lot more praise for their films then most other comic book films do. I am sure a lot of people are feeling the pressure to maybe put up Marvel like numbers for their studio but money isn’t everything. Maybe one day Scorsese could do a comic book film and with his style it would actually be a great if not the best comic book film ever!
The Rock and DeadPool?
By Paul Anthony
The Rock has become a staple in the action world and comedy world of acting, and let’s be honest he has become very good at it. That is even more clear in the last few years but we have to ask ourselves when will the Rock join the MCU and who could he play? This topic hit the fan when Ryan Reynolds made a cameo in the Hobbs and Shaw movie. Which to be honest will spawned another film which Reynolds could have an extended role and that got the co creator of Deadpool wanting the Rock as a hero in the next Deadpool film.
Now we know there will be a Deadpool three, what we don’t know is when that film is coming but having the Rock in it would no doubt send the possible series final into new heights with showing the bad ass in THE Rock, we would no doubt laugh our ass off with this film. But who would the Rock play? What about Garrison Kane. Now Kane was suppose to be in the first but due to budget concerns with the CGI that is required, they cut him from the script. We know now that Deadpool has grew in budget and if Disney see’s the value in adding The Rock plus the money for the CGI, they will make it happen.
I for one would love to see the Rock in an MCU movie, I know he is suppose to be playing Black Adam in the DCEU but we don’t know when that will happen. Not to mention he can handle the work load of doing two movies if the filming schedule were at the same time. Will this actually happen though? I don’t know to be honest adding the Rock would no doubt be one of the biggest moves to the MCU since well adding Robert Downey Jr though that came in time.
Still this could be years away with the fact that an X-Force movie is being planned first at least that was before Disney bought fox century. Fox’s planned was to do a X-Force movie then Ryan would take a break from being Deadpool before he jumped back into the role for the third solo film. So in theory Kane could show up in the X-force movie since he was apart of the group at one point.
I know this could never happen but it is something to get excited for well we wait. Because as I stated there is nothing actually planned right now for DeadPool. I have ask you would you be excited for the Rock to show up In Deadpool?
Spider-Man Far From Home Review
By Paul Anthony
Its a new month and we using a tier system to rank our movies, so before we get started let me explain a little about this tier system. we will be using letters to give our rating, think about it like being in school, S will be used as the top of the top movies in this case S will be Super or 100plus percentage next will A or Awesome like 90 to 100 percent rating, B will be Basic or 80 or 90 percent rating, next will be C for careful which will be 70 to 80 percent. Then we got the Letter D for Drool or 60 to 70 percent. Now we are really getting low here now we Have E for effort which is 50 to 60 percent, and now we have the lowest rating which is F which is failure which is 0-50 percent. Now that we got that out of the way let’s get to the review!
Since Marvel took over Spider-Man he has been getting many positive reviews despite there being so many films with Spider-Man since 2002, but this is Marvel second solo Spider-Man film and trust me they did deliver! For starters I am giving the film the rating of A right around 95 percent. Tom Holland continues to grow as Spider-Man and Peter Parker, its important to note that despite the two being one a key to a secret identity is being different from your alter ego. Tom Holland does a great job at growing into both roles. In Here we now seem him going through the idea of him not wanting to be the big hero yet still being a hero and wanting a normal life with his friends which makes sense because he is only 16 and been through tons. These films set a good tone with decent humor but also let Holland shine with showing how much he misses Tony, which is a good touch because Tony did want he did for Peter.
Now I am not the biggest fan of Jake Gyllenhaal but he did do a good job at Quentin Beck/ Mysterio, The trailers made it seem like he was going to be a hero pretty much every trailer made him look like a hero now not spoiling for anyone here but he is a Master of Trickery and Illusion and Marvel can’t stress that enough.
Another thing that I did like was in this film we saw more of Peter Parker rather then Spider-Man and like I said before we needed this because we saw more of Spider-Man the last few films. Usually I would knock it for that but it made sense to do that. They also explain the aftermath of the snap and explain that it is called “The Blip” and explain those who faded and came back had to start where they were before they faded so if you had a younger brother he would basically be your older brother now. Let’s get to the post credit scenes more importantly the first. We know j. Jonah Jameson is big in the Spider-Man universe and people really loved him after J.K. Simmons portray him from 2002 to 2008 in the Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man with reboots we know there will be new actors for roles but then Marvel and Sony gave us a treat With J.K Simmons reprising the role! Yes its a spoiler but who cares this was just such an awesome thing to get this treat! Either Please go see the movie, the movie budget is 150 million and just in two days according the stats it has already made 130 million not bad!
Dark Phoenix Review
By Paul Anthony
After 7 films in the main series the X-Men films have come to an end and with that being said it did not end in with a bang in fact it fell flat. Some things made sense others did not but as the final film I believe this was the worse film of the series. X-Men films have been on the down fall recently but this was it. Who would have thought that doing a storyline twice would be worse then the first at least with the first time around they had Wolverine but we know Hugh Jackman retired from the role.
This movie opening weekend was the worse of any film and I kid you not, was the film a complete waste of time no, but it was pretty bad. First the crew was back and this time they had to deal with Jean Grey becoming the phoenix now in time film they make you believe it was a power from outer space however they must have forgotten about the ending of the previous film, where the film ends and makes it clear the phoenix power was in Jean Grey all along. Now another plot hole that I found and has been around was the characters ages. Magneto and Professor X should being looking the old guys that they are but instead they look the same as they did in the 60’s, these are big time plot holes that hurt the film.
Another thing that I was disappointed was that the fact that Quicksilver didn’t have one of his fun fast scenes that we were use to seeing, in fact he was hardly in the film except for a few and I do mean a few one liners. Now let’s talk about the action and the action came in the final twenty minutes of the film and when you have a two hour long movie that is suppose to be an action film but instead we got a bunch of running around with a story that was very thin as it was and to have no action to go along with it just made it a snooze fest.
Now as much as it seems like I am bashing this film, there were some good moments, when Jean grey got to use her powers it was a fun ride to see how powerful she truly was and even the performances of many of the cast were on par but hers really did stand out and I am truly sad not to see Sophie Turner do more X-Men films, Who knows maybe Disney will keep her when they reboot the series down the road. I am big Marvel fan and it breaks my heart to give this film a 2 star rating, it wasn’t bad and it had some good moments honestly I would say go see it on discount days and that is HOW X-Men ends!
Oh What a Weekend part 1
by Paul Anthony
Can you think of any other weekend in entertainment history that was magic like the one we just had? I’ll wait until you think about it…. just kidding, I am going to talk about this weekend regardless if you think about it or not. This weekend we had two big events, we had Avengers: Endgame getting released and we had one of the best episodes air on Sunday night from Game of Thrones. That’s right the war of the dead vs living sure did live up to the hype, after 8 years we finally got to see this battle, but I will save that for a little later but first let’s talk about Avengers first.
As I mention the event that was ten years in building finally happened, twenty-two film story arc and tons of character arcs finally came to an end and the question did it live up to the hype? The movie was long, but it was a great one, the film managed to wrap up all the original Avengers story arcs and they did give more screen time to those who didn’t have enough time in Infinity war. The action was there, which we knew would be as well as the effects which with the budget they had and just overall money they had from Disney it only makes sense that the effects would be on par. Here is a thing that did take me by storm and that is the emotions that it had. We had a little of everything when it comes to the emotions, but the best part was the sadness. Now when Iron Man lost his life to defeat Thanos it truly struck a cord with many and I mean many fans, Robert Downey Jr put on a award winning performance like no other which made sense Jr is a great actor and he has the resume to prove it.
I would give this movie a 4.8 stars just shy from being perfect because at the end of the day a film over three hours can drag a story out which it did seem like the film was dragging out the rather then build it but there is always a thin line but nonetheless if it fail on anything it would have been that part but only barely.
Now an event like this you can only imagine the money this film is making and yes, this film is making a lot of money. In it’s opening weekend worldwide the film made 1.2 billion dollars and first ever film to do so on it’s opening weekend. Even on the week days this film is making money as of today the film sits at 1.4 billion and we have yet to reach the second weekend and nothing big is opening this weekend. The Next closest film won’t be out until May 12th. We also have Memorial Day weekend at the end of the month which is far out but could keep Avengers in the top ten still, crazy I know right? Just think that is only part one of weekend
