Freddy ten years ago!

By Paul Anthony

Ten years ago a horror legend returned to the big screen and at first it seemed like everyone was happy but sad that Robert Englund was no longer going to play the league character a role that he played from 1984 to 2003. The film had Jackie Earle Haley play Freddy. Up to this point Haley has been around in Hollywood since the 70s but mostly in roles you may have forgotten about, now by all accounts he made for the right person to take on the role of Freddy. With the cast locked up and the film only cost 35 million and with the previous year having a new Jason film that which the fan base was happy with, it only seem natural that we would strike oil again and have another hit on our hands. In truth the film did become a hit and made 116 million from the 35 million dollar budget. However the fanbase decided to start turning on the film for a few reasons.

One reason was because fans didn’t like the use of CGI for the face of Freddy even though it actually made it look more real then the cartoon make up that he had for a face before. Sure maybe there could have been a mixture of both but to me there was nothing to that really. I started to hear about people complain about how there wasn’t any humor like the previous films now this is use true but the producers made it clear that they were going with a darker tone, a more scarier Freddy. To me that was the only way to go in today’s horror genre. The comedy of Freddy was no longer carrying the franchise just look at the numbers they began to drop once the story pretty much ended. Sure Jason vs Freddy was a modest hit mostly because people been craving to see these two go at it since the early 90s, on top of that you had two fanbases coming together. The final reason was many people blamed Jackie who in my mind was the best part of the film, fans came out and wanted Robert Englund back but here is the thing when producers said reboot at that point you knew Englund was done and trust me it was time to move on.

The film itself overall wasn’t bad by any means, sure it wasn’t biggest hit for a horror film but still good. The truth is many people wanted fresh stuff and Freddy is a legend there is a place for him and always will be but that is in the past. I am sad to see Jackie be one and done, we know the studio wants to reboot the film again and after ten years its a good gap to do so. The biggest rumor that Kevin Bacon is being eyed to play Freddy, which is a good choice he has the talent to honestly mix the two Freddies but we will see in the near future if this comes to be. In my final words I do say this enjoy the 2010 reboot and see the good that the film with making Freddy scary and not making him a joke!!

Can Bill Maher please shut up

By Paul Anthony

If you follow Bill Maher, you will know he’s the biggest trash talker there is, who pretty much thinks hes a rottweiler when in reality he is nothing more then a chihuahua, that needs to be kicked. I’m not saying i was a fan but I would watch him from time to time when there was nothing else to watch. But now I see this man decides to hit an all time low.

We all know Stan Lee passed away earlier this month, at the age of 95. Here is will Bill decides to show his colors, by taking cheap shots at both Stan Lee’s legacy and his fans who are mourning. In what would be the worse time to say anything regarding someone passing, he decides to blast fans “who are in deep deep mourning over a guy who simply inspired millions to see a movie” he also went on to blast people by saying people need to grow up and read books without pictures. I must say Bill you are truly an idiot and I would love to say it to his face. Bill is in his 60’s and his career is winding down and i believe he likes to say stupid stuff like this to get a reaction to keep his career going. Because he knows his legacy is never going to be on the same level as Stan Lee.

Bill would go on once again blasting people who blast him for his comments by saying more dumb stuff and that dumb stuff is the backlash only proves his point. Oh Man, let me take a breath for second, no people who are going after him don’t prove his point, and I am sure he’s going to say something like reading comics make you dumb, no Bill listening to you will make people dumb. When people make remarks like that, it is clear as day they know they are wrong but in some people nature they can never admit that they are wrong.

Now I am not saying Stan Lee created literature atleast according to rules comics aren’t literature. However what Stan lee work did do was inspire people to read aqnd believe in themselves. Marvel heroes and villains are famous for having flaws but it taught people that you can have falws but still do good in life. Those people that read those comics did move onto books without pictures and as for those movies, No, Stan Lee didn’t make those films, these movies bring people back to a fun time in their life and that’s why they are hits with fans.

To prove a point here regarding his comments, president Obama who a lot of people regard as one of the better presidents even said Bill was wrong for that. In the end people are allowed to mourn for whoever they want and for reasons they will only know, but this doesn’t mean it’s okay for a never was like Bill Maher to put his two cents in this subject and just let people mourn. So Please Bill will you just shut up!

The Fall of the cards

By Paul Anthony

When the Harvey Weinstein case happen a few weeks ago, we all knew this would only be the beginning and sure enough we were right. People started to come forward accusing actors left and right. Now nothing really came about with those actors but now another actor came is being accused of sexual Harassing people. That actor is none other than Kevin Spacey, who now being accused by 14 people to date.

The flood gates opened on Spacey when last month Anthony Rapp accused him some three decades ago and here’s the thing, this happened when Rapp was only a 14. Spacey sexual orientation has been a mystery for years while some figured he was gay and others thought he was straight. When Rapp came out told the story how Spacey was drunk came to his room and started to fondle him and Spacey said in return that he didn’t remember this ever happening and if it did he is truly sorry and that’s when he confirmed that he was indeed gay. Him coming out didn’t sit well with other gay Actors and Actresses, many believed he was using his sexual orientation to get sympathy or to excuse what he did. Since the 13 other men have come out and stated Spacy has sexual harass them.

Before Rapp came out, Netflix announced the sixth season of House of cards would be its last but this drama happened and they quickly stopped production then just days later canceled the show all together so Netflix wanted to cut ties with him altogether and even opted to not release his film Gore, they decided to cut all the ties with him. Netflix wasn’t the only one that cut ties, Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World had Spacey starring in it but Scott decided to have Christopher Plummer do Spacey scenes and reshoot the ones he has already done.

I must wonder what made Spacey do what he did so many years ago, he fondled a kid and we are left wondering if there were more kids that felt his wrath. It’s hard to believe he did this just one kid usually there is more than one.

How will Spacey move forward? Well at this point his career is over, no studio going to hire him and bring all the drama with him. It’s sad that such a promising career ended the way it did. But he did it to himself so he can only blame himself. This is an ongoing story, so there will more updates as the weeks go on but we will see.

A Great Loss

By Paul Anthony

Last week Joan Boocock passed away from a stroke. Now many of us probably never heard of her in our lives and that doesn’t mean anything, so don’t feel bad but the truth is you probably saw her at many red-carpet premieres when Marvel releases a film. If you’re wondering why then wonder no longer because she was Stan Lee wife of get this 70 years. That’s something to be proud of, many of us would love for our marriages to last that long. Now she may never have been as famous as her husband but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have a strong impact on the stuff we love and enjoy.

Stan Lee basically the godfather of comics and Marvel true hero, had it not been for him, Marvel may not have survived at all and grow into an empire. There was a moment where This nightmare could have happened. At one point Lee fell into a depression and was deciding to leave the business but Joan stepped in and gave him great advice. “Why don’t you write one comic you’d be proud of” The quote would sink in and sure enough it worked. Lee wrote a comic he would be proud of. That comic book would be called The Fantastic Four and the rest they say is history.

I always believed that behind every great man is a great woman, Lee a legend but it was thanks to his wife. Boocock had a career of her own, during her prime she was hat model, when she married Lee she went on to have two kids with Lee however one passed away few days after birth, I can’t imagine the pain that they had to go through but the good news was that they went through it together and not alone.

Boocock did more, she ended up getting her book published and her daughter revealed that she had a few novels unpublished but they are completed, she also did some voice acting for a few marvel cartoons, which was fitting since she was basically a queen in Marvel. Now sadly she passed away from a stroke on July, 6th.

Now I wanted to this blog after I saw how both Marvel and DC came together and mourn the loss of Joan Boocock and hoped Stan Lee the best. Which shows you how respected Stan Lee in the comic book world. I know he might be feeling lost after all he lost one of the most important people in life. Here at Smash Writing we wish your family nothing but the best and we are sorry for your loss.

Remembering Carrie and Debbie

By Paul Anthony

I still can’t believe this is true, the passing of two great Great actresses, a daughter then a mother, the entertainment industry lost two great women in a two day span. I saw other bloggers saying Princess Leia has passed away but then I remembered that Leia is a character and not a real person.

In fact Carrie Fisher was the one who passed away from a cardiac arrest on a plane when she was traveling from London to Los Angles, she was touring Europe promoting her book. After I read these articles informing us she was gone I felt lost, she was a lovable person and a great talent, sure she rose to fame with Star Wars but she would go to have a very productive career from 1975 to her passing, she was 60 years young and should have had more time on this planet.

The scary thing about cardiac arrests is if you don’t do something in the first few minutes then death is almost guaranteed, even on life support she passed away.Like I stated before I feel  remembering just one of many roles and calling her by that character name is insulting to the person that she was. I am still left speechless because her passing was a stunner.

She made Leia such a important character in a series for which had Harrison Ford and focused on the Character Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Give all that credit to Carrie herself, her great ablity to make a strong leader look even stronger just one of her many talents as a actress but when you come from a acting family you have to bring your A game.

Carrie was the daughter to Debbie Reynolds who sadly passed away just a day after her daughter passed away, its been reported her cause of death was a stroke but her Carrie’s brother stated his mother’s last words were she wanted to be with Carrie, so maybe her real cause of death was a broken heart.

Debbie came to fame in the early 50’s and 60’s  and continue throughout her life, my generation may remember her for her role in the Disney tv film franchise Halloween where she played the main character grandmother.

I can’t act like I know the pain that their family is going through, to lose two members in a day during this holiday season, I want to send my thoughts to their family and I want to give a direct message to them.

Your family was a great talent, that won’t ever be replace, they legends and they will never be forgotten, I wish the news was wrong and this was all just a bad dream but i know this wasn’t, the work they did was unbelievable and I believe future acters and acteresses will look at what they did and follow in their footsteps, people should try and be like Debbie and Carrie but in the end no one can ever be like that, this is truly a great loss and fans that span over generations will them, I know I will, I hope and pray your family will recover and remember them because they will forever be remembered in in your hearts.

Carrie Fisher October 21st 1956 to December 27th 2016 , Debbie Reynolds April 1st 1932 to December 28th 2016
