Rise of the Streaming Service!
By Paul Anthony
Netflix is the currently king in the streaming field of movies and T.V. but the question for how long? Since basically 2010 Netflix has been pumping millions into their streaming service but now just ten years later it might be a different story. We know Netflix always had competition but it more then ever. We Know their is Amazon prime and Hulu but even they are gaining more steam. We now are going to have Apple plus and Disney plus and HBO Max but another one is entering the game and that is NBC’s very own Peacock streaming app.
Okay Okay, judging from the name you think a Peacock wouldn’t be much of a threat but think about what NBC has to offer. I am going guess you will have current NBC shows on their not to mention they will have their original content including the reboot of Save by The Bell. The verdict will be out on their shows of course but the names should strike a little scare in Netflix. We have Apple now entering the business and right now there is no fear yet because once again they are making their own content so it is hard to say if it blow up so the verdict is out but Apple users will flock to get this service and oh yeah the price is only 5 dollars a month.
Disney plus when it was announced was already called the Netflix killer and that was because of all the content they will be pulling from Netflix and that is scary, if you choose the option of 12.99 per month you get Disney, Hulu and Espn plus, which is crazy amount of material and let’s not forget about HBO Max. No offical price has been given just yet but it has to be safe to assume that it will be around 12 or 13 dollars.
Now I know we are talking about the streaming service and we have yet to touch upon cable companies and satellite companies and how they are going to be getting affected as well. It has been getting annoying seeing prices go up and up and with the working class we don’t really watch cable much. However I do believe they won’t be hurt that much, so there is no need to focus on them as much as we want to. The point here is Netflix and how will they do.
Netflix may be losing a lot of content but they do have their own produced content that is actually good and get great reviews. Last few years they have been making both good shows and now Movies as well with some big stars including Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck and Will Smith. For them to stay on top, they need to keep producing their own good content and remain user friendly. I don’t see them changing their prices because in the end, they are already low 6 to 12 dollars a month is very cheap. In the end all these streaming services will be equaled in the end it will just depend on what you like and no one said that you can’t have all of them at once.
The End Of The Throne
By Paul Anthony
2019 has brought us some crazy endings, to shows and movies that we came to love and never wanted to end, but like the old saying goes all good things come an end. We had The Big Bang Theory come to an end then The Original Avengers come to an end and now the Hit Show Game of Thrones has ended as well. That is right the show has ended last week and in Game of Thrones fashion the season and series final episode was indeed a let down, in terms of excitement that is. This episode could have been one of the biggest in the history of television but it wasn’t meant be, because the excitement came in the previous episode.
It did have its moments of course like the scene where it looks like Dany had wings or when Jon had to kill her and Drogon burning the Iron Throne because in the end that seat caused him nothing but pain and now he lost his mother because of it. But after that it just fell flat, we knew Jon wasn’t going to be king he made that clear and Dany wasn’t going to be queen even after the years of building up and the mad queen twist pretty much made that pretty much clear. Bran story made it clear that he was going to be a wise man which is needed to rule the land it made sense even if you didn’t see it coming. Arya always been on adventure since season one but they could have used a lot more action then nothing.
I believe this show will be talked about for years to come even if we disagree on this season and yes there were signs that this season was rushed even though they took extra time to film it, yes I am talking about the coffee cup and the water jug clear as day showing up in the episodes. I am shocked that they didn’t show Sophie Turner Vaping as Sansa, which have been fun to watch no doubt. The final season was also the lowest rating of all the seasons, I can understand why but I saw what they were doing years ago and it made sense.
Remember when those leaks happen and we were told the ending which could have been the reason why this season had a low rating because those leaks gave the fans the endings of characters that they thought was best turns out, those leaks were nothing more then fakes.
But we are now moving on and like many hits, this show will have spin offs, which may never live up to Game of Thrones, I can only hope they use Materials from the books instead of going off on their own but we will have to wait and see. As For some the cast you will be seeing them all over the place in years to come no worries there. Sophie Turner will be in the Final X-Men film as Jean Grey, Isaac Hempstead Wright will be films like The Blue Maritius and Voyagers. Maisie Williams will be in films like Then Come You, New Mutants, The Owners. Kit Harington has been a busy man but currently seems like he is taking a break. Now that a few stars that will continue their success and trust me the rest of the cast will be in projects as well!
It has been fun watching this show and I often have stated how if it wasn’t for the man who became my brother in law I would have never gotten into this show now I will miss it!
What a Weekend Part 2
By Paul Anthony
Now we know how the beginning of the weekend started, let’s talk about how the weekend ended. I have been a big Game of Thrones fan and last’s Sunday night episode was the battle of the living vs the dead, the Night king vs Jon Snow and his army at Winterfell and did it leave up to the hype of waiting so many years? I like to think so, it was the first long episode of the short and final season. If I had to give this episode a good 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. The action from what you could see was there. The moments you thought your favorite characters were going to die were there and of course the lost of some characters. Then the ending was as awesome as you can get and yes, this blog contains spoilers. If you are living under the rock build up was aiming for Jon and the Night King to go one on one but in stead it was Arya Stark that took on the Night King and just when you thought she was going to die she came through and killed the Night King. Theon Greyjoy’s story finally came to an end. He was task with protecting Bran from The Night King which he showed his bad ass skills and protected Bran until the Night King himself showed up and made quick work of him but not before Bran thanked him and told him he was good man. We know his story was dark one after season one but as dark as it became and the pain he went through with Ramsey, he slowly started to redeem himself. I never seen such a character arc like his besides Darth Vader himself in some ways they are same person.
The Red Witch too fulfilled her prophecy and passed away after the battle was won, she removed her necklace, she then faded into the light. The Dragons had there moment in the spotlight as well, they roamed the sky and took on each other, seemed like each dragon took a beating but they all survived except when the Night King died then his dragon went with him.
However, the hardest thing about this episode was the lightening, they made the episode dark which was by design however fans didn’t like it. Sure, we could have just fixed the lightening on our screens to see better but we were so into the episode that we did not want to miss beat of what was happening.
The ratings were off the chart with this as well in all 17.8 million people watched this episode. Which is pretty good number for episode number three of six and first of the longer episodes we are expected to get. Now this war is over they will be moving towards the war to end all wars and finally someone will take the throne for good, well at least in the end of series! We got to see what Sunday will bring us!
Season 8 of Game Of Thrones!
By Paul Anthony
Sunday will mark the beginning of the end if you’re a fan of the HBO show Game of Thrones, I know I am. It seems like we have been waiting ten years for this season to happen but really it has only been just about a year in a half since the season 7 ended. We knew for sometime now this would be the end, well going far back as season 6 actually. All the stories of the show will come to an end, which I am excited. We know HBO wanted this show to go ten seasons with ten episodes each but sadly there wasn’t enough material to carry the load and some would even argue at times there would be pointless fillers to kill the time but nonetheless an era coming to an end.
With the season about to start we will finally see how long these episodes will be, we heard that they would be around two hours, which if they are then they need to be exciting, So what does this season have in store for us besides the season being short and episodes longer, well we know the white walker war will start, we saw that in season 7 as they got through the wall and continue to march north and now they have a dragon. We have to wonder how strong are the white walkers importantly how strong is their leader, he took down a dragon with a spear and then resurrected it and there they took down the wall that kept the living safe.
We also learn the truth about Jon Snow’s parents which has been in question since day 1. Ned Stark was stand up guy no way he would have cheated on his wife but now we know that Jon is actually Ned’s nephew and Jon’s parents is Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen which makes Daenerys Targaryen his first cousin which we know they had sex in the end. Mind you he doesn’t that just the audience and I have to wonder will he ever find out and if he does how will he react to that. Inbreeding is nothing new to the game of Thrones. Our favorite couple Ser Jaime and Cersei Lannister. we know Cersei does not intend to help fight the white walkers despite the fact that she said she would help, Jaime is still torn over the seasons he has slowly went from a bad guy to a good guy but yet his love for his sister he has remained loyal to her even when he knows she is wrong. I’m going to guess he will finally turn his back on her and join the fight against the true enemy. Bran future is still up in the air the theory is since he can time travel that he is the leader though I don’t fully believe that but we shall see because anything is possible at this point.
One of the biggest things that happen during this break was the so called leak of season 8 which claims who will win the throne and so forth. Even if theses were true plots that were leaked, I am still looking forward to see it for myself but nonetheless if you did read the leaks I would take them with a grain of salt.
It sad to see this show end but all good things come to an end, there still the possible rumor that there will be a spin off which to me won’t be the same to, now with that being said I want this season to start!
A Long Wait
By Paul Anthony
Last Sunday was epic if you’re a Game of Thrones fan, we saw the end of season seven with the ice dragon. Season seven was the first season to be shorten and next season which is at this point being billed as the finale season, though at times I have been questioning that, but I will save that for another blog. Now with this season in the books we were left craving for more but the biggest question we have is when will we get more? This has been a topic of great debate for roughly a year now. We don’t have an official answer just yet but it’s becoming increasingly clear, so I hate to bring everyone bad news but it may be close to 16 months before we see a new episode.
We know the scripts have been written or at least the hackers believe they released the scripts to season eight though there is nothing to confirm these leaks are the scripts but we do know they haven’t begun to film a single episode yet and in the past, film the next well one season is airing. However, this is not the case. Filming is scheduled to begin in October and is expected to last until August which is a good amount of time, this all but confirms that the episodes in season eight will be longer than usually. The rumor right now is each episode would be around two hours which would explain the ten months of filming. The sad part is that the next stage is post production which could take a few months. If you’re doing the math right we are basically in December at this point and not a single episode has aired yet, which means this 16-month gap that’s been around for some time now, is basically true.
Now we have wonder why the long gap like that? Well I have a few ideas but remember they are just ideas. I believe HBO like any other studio or channel wants to drag this out, it’s been no secret that they wanted to this show to be ten seasons long with each season having ten episodes, they realize that wasn’t going to happen because the truth is they don’t have enough material to do so, well at least not to enough without dragging it out.
Now my other idea is that maybe season 8 isn’t the end, just the end for now, there been rumors of spin offs but I am referring to that fact that there are two more books on their way with each book rumored to be 1500 pages long, I would think that would be plenty of material for them to get to ten seasons. The problem is we have no clue on when these books will happen, after all writing 1500-page book can take years let alone write two of them.
I don’t know what will happen in season 8 but I can tell you this much I am dying to see it just as much as you are, but like you I have wait it out, bring on WestWorld.
