Back in the early 90’s the horror genre was basically dying right in front of our eyes, besides the big name guys in the horror films most other films were heading to Direct to DVD but then in 1996 a new franchise started and was indeed credited for saving the horror genre, that series was none other then the Scream franchise. Scream part 1 came out in December of 96 and was a big time hit which meant a sequel was coming. Based on the fact that Scream 2 was released just a year later, it was clear they had this planned from the start. So Basically two years in a row this series kept the game strong but was part 2 really that good well here in my take on it.

Part 2 now begins two years later after the events of the first film, the story continues to follow Sidney Prescott who is now in college and things begin to unravel just like the first film but she knows that the true killers are dead so we are now face with a copycat killer but why? Sidney is once again reunited with her crew the film geek Randy, now retired officer Dewey and Reporter Gal. The film keeps the true killer a mystery and no plot is actually is given until the very. At this point this film makes sense . We learn that Billy’s Mom who lost her son and her husband was seeking revenge but we know there are always two killers, one killer being  Mrs. Loomis who goes by the name Debbie Salt and one of Sidney’s very own college friends Micky who is played by Timothy Olyphant. Now Through the whole film Mickey does have a very creepy vibe about him which confuses you as the why Sidney would befriend someone like that with her past situation. Nonetheless Sidney with Gal and Dewey survive though both Gal and Dewey takes a beating in the process.

Most studios try to make the sequels better and bigger, it is rare to catch a sequel like this where they didn’t do too much, the film alone was on par with the first, which may be the joy of filming films back to back. The story was a good story to me because it only made sense that someone would be seeking revenge because Billy was only a high school student when he was killed. We know this film did good enough to spawn a third film which would come out 3 years later and the final film to date came out in 2011 and a TV series started as well to continue on the legacy of this film.
