Saturday Sequel Presents Final Destination 2

By Paul Anthony

In this edition we are going to talk about Final Destination 2 now this was one of those franchises that was something different and something new. Now part 1 came out in 2000 and was massive hit when the budget was 23 million and ended up grossing 112 million like always when a movie is a hit you know a sequel was coming but like many horror franchises the story doesn’t stop with part one but the problem becomes the story doesn’t get any better and changes come that weren’t needed to make the story better when it makes it worse. This film came out three years later and was once again it was a hit but the money wasn’t as high. The budget was 26 million and the movie grossed 90 million dollars which was 22 million less then the first film but yet it was successful however a failure in some ways as well.

The story is the same a group of people led by the survivor of the first film and new lead who has the ability to cheat death by having visons and she can see how to prevent death from happening. Her first vison is an epic traffic accident on the highway which she saves some lives but her friends die when their SUV gets crushed and burns. She is now determine to find a way to stop death but as the movie goes along it is revealed that the people she saved are all connected and because of the flight 180 from the first film these people lived because those who got off the plane from the previous film caused a ripple affect and basically caused Death’s plan to go down the drain for the moment at least because slowly but surely the group that she saves dies one by one until ones has a baby which is the key to beating this curse and stops the order. It seems like in the end she manages to save her life and her love interest’s life as well.

Now It has been a long time since I watched the first but I don’t remember it having many laughs or over the top acting like this film did. Sadly this film fell in that era where someone thought adding comedy to a horror film was such a good idea well it wasn’t. The comedy didn’t hurt the film but didn’t help it either. The deaths seem to be over the top as well and maybe that was the goal it just didn’t work for me. The plot twist was a nice touch but I would say the film could have and should have been better, in the end this film is basically a C on the grading chart it was just that Average.
