Friday Roundabout 10-04-2019
By Justin Hopkins
Hello and with another week in the books, means let another edition of the Friday Roundabout. Where we take a look back throughout the week, and take a look at some big news stories that occured, and discuss them a little bit, and this week was ripe for the picking. So, let’s start off with one that we normally don’t talk to much about here, on Smash Writing, and that is from the world of Video Games and the massive news from Sony.
As a die hard PS4 player, there was always two big things I have been wanting for a long time now, and as of Wednesday, got the biggest, and that was the announcement that they were opening Crossplay to all developers. Something that has been a long time coming and I am so thrilled that it is finally here. There very few games that kind of went around Sony, but having them finally open things up, is great for gamers of each system. Fan bases of multiplayer games can grow so much larger and more fun to be had all around. PUBG pretty much immediately announced the beta and is now live for PS4 and XBOX One, and I hope others follow suit sooner, rather than later. Particularly, Dead By Daylight and Minecraft. My Huntress and Plague demand new sacrifices, and need my XBOX friends to help me finish building Horror Land in Minecraft.
Speaking of gaming, we got some amazing looks from 2 dedicated Devs working on a Fan Made remake of the beloved Goldeneye. Specifically, the single player campaign. I loved this game, as well did so many others, and these 2 clearly love it so much, as they are completely remaking it from the ground up with the Unreal Engine, and it looks spectacular. Making no changes, but updating the game to today’s standards. The trailer for Silo brought back so many fond memories of the days lost playing Goldeneye over and over. It’s release is set for 2022 to align with Goldeneye’s 25th anniversary and will be entitled Goldeneye 25. We at Smash Writing wish those involved all the luck in the world bringing this back to the world, and know you have an amazing fan base wishing you luck.
Alright, now back to our regularly scheduled program, and will kick it off with Tremors Part 7, and the fact that shooting for it will begin next month. A big part of me doesn’t want to be excited for it. Should have died after 5. Somehow managed to put on a good showing in 6. Maybe they should have thought about rebooting, or putting it to bed for a while…. But it’s Michael Gross’ Burt Gummer and he is just the best. He is always such a fun character to watch, and Graboids are such an underrated monster. Of course I will be more excited upon release and more than enough space on my shelf for a part 7.
We also got the news of a return to the Investigative series known as Forensic Files. For those who never watched it, it’s shows these murder, kidnappings and other crimes and how police and scientists used Forensics to bring the criminal to justice, and was fantastic. There was an episode that showed the used of DNA from trees and Cats and was just really informative. Focusing on the science and it’s capabilities instead of Drama. For those who haven’t I strongly suggest checking it out, it runs reruns pretty regularly. Unfortunately, the Narrator Peter Thomas passed away in 2016 at the age of 91. His voice was iconic and such a big part of the show and going forward, he will be missed. I hope that whoever they bring in can carry boldly in his footsteps and models after him and not the drama.
On the Trailer watch, it’s all about Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn, and I actually did enjoy it. Wasn’t a big fan of Suicide Squad even from the first trailer, but it has been very much the opposite here. Loved the fact that they were including her Hyenas. They didn’t show much of the others, which I did like, because trailers ruin way to much anymore. Keeping mostly to here and the trouble she was causing as she tries to get over Joker. Which is my one wish. That they keep them apart for a little bit. Through this movie and the next I hope. I get a lot of people like them together, but Harley has grown into such a complex character and they can do so much more with her, without him. The trailer looked great, will probably skip the next one to keep myself in the dark till the movie drops in February.
With Batwoman coming out this weekend. Ruby Rose came out during an interview about a rather serious injury she got during the filming of Batwoman, that nearly caused severing of her spinal column. She had to be rushed to emergency surgery, which we are glad was a success, and if you want to check out the video of the surgery, it’s on her Instagram. I am not, because that’ll be an emphatic no. I am glad she is safe and Batwoman is definitely the show I am looking forward to the most this weekend.
And that is all for this Friday’s Roundabouts. I hope you enjoyed and as always…
Thank you for reading.
